Looks can be deceiving, the same is true for reputations
As the head of his family, Robert Beckford, the Earl of Masten, was accustomed to dealing with various problems his siblings had caused of one sort or another. However he wasn’t prepared when his cad of brother ruined and then abandoned a young lady. To right the wrong, Robert married the girl himself; but his chivalry only went so far. He didn’t want a wife, and most certainly not a scandalous one. So after repeating his vows, he sent her packing, off to a secluded estate and expected her to stay put.
After years of mistreatment at the hands of her family, Lydia was prepared to be an accommodating wife; but her rigid and unforgiving husband asked too much of her. After languishing for years in her opulent prison, Lydia leaves her country estate for the glamour and excitement of London—and unfortunately her husband’s path.

Entertaining with memorable characters. I really don’t understand why so many e-books suffer from poor editing that distracts from the story. Still, the tale is compelling and keeps one wanting more.

The story was kinda dragging. The characters were a bit lacking, the female character, even with the tragic story that she had, I still couldn't find myself liking her, I felt that logically and considering the time period and the experiences she went through her personality didn't make much sense, and also she kept on blaming this guy for her "terrible" life, when in reality if it wouldn't of been for him her life would have actually been terrible, cz let's face it a woman with no title or fortune that got caught in that compromising position would have had a real crappy life in that particular era, instead she got a title and a life in where she didn't have to worry about anything. The male character was supposed to be this prim and proper guy, but as soon as he saw her he turned into a freaking puppy, nothing interesting about him.... I would have liked a bit more depth to his character.... I wouldn't recommend this book, it wasn't what I expected.
