Description

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Amos Decker witnesses a murder just outside FBI headquarters. A man shoots a woman execution-style on a crowded sidewalk, then turns the gun on himself.

Even with Decker's extraordinary powers of observation and deduction, the killing is baffling. Decker and his team can find absolutely no connection between the shooter--a family man with a successful consulting business--and his victim, a schoolteacher. Nor is there a hint of any possible motive for the attack.

Enter Harper Brown. An agent of the Defense Intelligence Agency, she orders Decker to back off the case. The murder is part of an open DIA investigation, one so classified that Decker and his team aren't cleared for it.

But they learn that the DIA believes solving the murder is now a matter of urgent national security. Critical information may have been leaked to a hostile government--or worse, an international terrorist group--and an attack may be imminent.

Decker's never been one to follow the rules, especially with the stakes so high. Forced into an uneasy alliance with Agent Brown, Decker remains laser focused on only one goal: solving the case before it's too late.

Great storyline! Action from the very beginning. No way to even guess at who did what until the end. Keeps your attention. Decker is set up for more adventures.

This was a book that I could hardly put down. All of the twists and turns were amazing. It was easy reading but left one wondering what is next. I would recommend it to anyone who likes suspense.

Not the best work David has done. I figured out the plot half way through but continued reading because I had nothing else to read. Great plot but many fillers to get to the end.
  • Unbelievale story

I enjoyed both the "Memory Man" and the second Amos Decker mystery introducing Melvin Mars. This third Decker book was awful. The second half got so disjointed with so many unbelievable coincidences and story lines that I could barely finish it. Melvin Mars being in the book had nothing to do with the plot line and involving the ex-prisoner/football player in the solution of the “mysterious” murder and suicide was ludicrous. Decker was shown to be rude and arrogant to his girl friend and the other investigators. His memory was not a factor in the resolution of the case. It was a bunch of wild guess work and the whole story was Alice in Wonderland.

The first two in this Amos Decker series left me anticipating a good read with this third. It didn’t happen. It seems as though the author lost touch with his characters in this one. The plot dragged. If there’s a book four in this series, I’ll read it in hopes the characters are resurrected with the same wit and sparkle as in books one and two.

IDK, could just be me being too distracted by “current events” but this failed to keep my attention for very long. It seemed to go very slowly at times. The ending was jam packed with excitement so left me with a good feeling. I wish the author would write to emphasize Decker’s extraordinary memory more in the stories. I find that ability very interesting. Still, a very good read.
